The TARDIS lands on a Soviet submarine during the Cold War, where an Ice Warrior has been discovered in ice. When it awakens, tensions escalate as it threatens nuclear war. The Doctor tries to negotiate peace, recognizing the warrior as a soldier following orders. Clara helps defuse the situation, and the Ice Warrior ultimately departs, showing restraint and honour.
ΓÇ£Cold WarΓÇ¥ follows the Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald aboard a Soviet submarine during the Cold War, where an Ice Warrior is accidentally awakened from cryogenic stasis.
The Ice Warriors are an ancient Martian warrior species encased in armour. They are highly disciplined and bound by strict codes of honour.
Skaldak is the awakened Ice Warrior commander who becomes hostile after believing his people have been destroyed, escalating tensions on the submarine.
The entire story takes place inside a submerged Soviet submarine, creating a claustrophobic environment during a nuclear-era standoff.
This episode revisits classic monsters in Doctor Who, while developing the dynamic between Clara and the Eleventh Doctor.
