In ancient Scotland, a Roman legion has vanished near a mysterious portal. The Doctor and Bill discover creatures that consume light and must be contained. Local tribes have been guarding the portal for generations. Bill helps continue the tradition, while the Doctor ensures the balance is maintained between worlds.
The Doctor, Bill Potts, and their companion travel to ancient Scotland where Roman soldiers have disappeared.
They are interdimensional creatures that consume light and emerge through a portal that must be controlled to prevent devastation.
The two groups are in conflict, but they must learn to cooperate to contain the threat from the Eaters of Light.
The Doctor chooses to seal himself in the portal temporarily to stabilize it, showing great personal sacrifice.
The episode explores unity, sacrifice, cultural conflict, and the importance of cooperation across differences.
